Veeam, TwinStrata team for cloud enabled backup
Brocade announced this week that it has merged its storage and network management products into a single package called Brocade Network Advisor.
Brocade, who acquired Foundry in 2008, inherited Foundry’s IronView Network Management software, which offers provisioning, change, fault, performance and image management and reporting for IP networks. The company combined IronView Network Management with Brocade’s storage area network (SAN) software called Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM). Now from a single pane of glass, storage and network administrators can manage their converged Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet networks, IP, wireless and MPLS networks.
Cisco is also enhancing its storage products and its Unified Computing products. The company rolled out a new Nexus 5500 data center switch and a few Nexus 2000 Fabric Extenders that increase the server connectivity options. The company also introduced Virtual WAAS – wide area application services – an appliance that runs on VMware ESX or ESXi hypervisors and Unified Computing System x86 servers and provides WAN optimization.
The new Nexus 5500 data center switch is a multiprotocol switch that works over Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic as well as iSCSI, NAS, Fibre Channel, RDMA over Ethernet and InfiniBand over Ethernet. The Cisco Nexus 2000 adds fabric extender capabilities for Nexus 2000 users.
In other news, Veeam Software and TwinStrata announced Monday that they will be cloud-enabling Veeam Backup & Replication with TwinStrata’s CloudArray software. CloudArray is purpose-built software that enhances data protection in cloud environments. It encrypts data prior to transporting it to cloud storage and provides companies with an economical off-site storage alternative.
