data center
In anticipation of its Data Center Conference starting tomorrow, Gartner predicts that energy, space and technology problems will worsen in 2010 and that IT managers will need to find pragmatic ways to deal with them. According to Gartner, removing a single x86 server from a data center will save $400 a year in energy costs. Gartner says that IT needs to analyze their data center costs, consolidate data center sites, manage energy and facilities costs and further, manage people costs. Among tips Gartner made were raising the temperature of the data center to 24 degrees Celsius, using outside air as an alternative to air conditioning, using blanking plates and adopting hot aisle/cold aisle configurations.
