BlueArc’s latest NAS array boasts twice the performance of previous devices

* BlueArc releases Titan 3000 Series with added search, indexing, classification and data retention capabilities

BlueArc unveiled a network-attached storage array last week that adds search, indexing, classification and data retention capabilities to its Titan NAS platform. The Titan 3000 Series boasts twice the performance of the company’s Titan 2000 and doubles the capacity – up to 4PB.

The BlueArc Titan 3000 Series consists of the Titan 3100 and the Titan 3200. Known for its performance, BlueArc claims that the new Titan Model 3200 can perform at 200,000 IOPs (I/O processors) and offer 20Gbps throughput. The Titan 3000 models contain Serial ATA drives and support iSCSI connections to the network. It also supports the Unix/Linux Network File System (NFS) and Microsoft Common Internet File System (CIFS).

The Tittan 3100 performs at approximately 100,000 SpecSFS IOPs with a maximum throughput of 10Gbps and a maximum capacity of 2PB.

Additionally the Titan 3000 Series will support as many as eight clustered nodes and 64 virtual storage servers. The Titan controller can front-end storage from LSI, Xyratex, Texas Memory Systems and Hitachi.

Through an API, BlueArc has introduced search, indexing, data retention and other capabilities. The company will work with Storewize, Brocade, Index Engines and Hitachi Data Systems to incorporate software for searching and indexing, virtualization, data retention, information lifecycle management and data reduction.

Specifically, BlueArc will support Hitachi’s Data Discovery Suite, which integrates with the API to provide file-intensive search and discovery. With the software, users and applications can search multiple data sources using a single query through a single interface the Hitachi NAS and Content Archive Platform. BlueArc and Brocade have also partnered to allow BlueArc to resell Brocade’s StorageX file virtualization and management software.
