* Acronis rolls out virtualization management software
Acronis last week launched virtualization management software that allows IT managers to move a server’s data from physical to virtual servers.
Acronis Full Circle is based on the company’s Fast Accurate Simple Transmission (FAST) technology that lets users migrate and convert data between physical servers, from virtual-to-physical or from virtual-to-virtual server environments. It works with Windows XP, Windows 2003 and Linux operating systems. The company plans to support the open source Xen virtualization and SWsoft’s Virtuozzo software, as well.
Acronis Full Circle supports both 32- and 64-bit AMD and Intel x86 environments and servers partitioned with VMware, Microsoft Virtual Server and Parallels Virtual Machine environments. The FAST technology engine can migrate systems to dissimilar hardware.
A wizard-based manager let users customize the migration process and migrate either an entire system or just specific files to another server. The migration can occur either on-line or off-line. A command line interface is also available for users who want to work from scripts.
With Full Circle, historical data can also be migrated. Working with Acronis’ True Image backup software, Full Circle takes a snapshot of the server and then uses it to migrate to the new server.
Competitors to Acronis’ Full Circle are Platespin, LeoStream, VMware and Microsoft.
Acronis was founded in 2001 by developers in Russia. The company has offices in the Burlington, Mass.
The product is in beta test now and is expected to ship in December. Pricing has not yet been determined.
