* HP tightens security on HP Integrity servers
HP continues to advance its Unix operating environment with the addition of features that simplify the protection of data on HP Integrity servers.
The company added encryption and hardening capabilities to HP-UX 11i. These capabilities, the company says, will help customers comply with data security and compliance mandates.
HP-UX now includes an encrypted volume and file system that protects data at rest (as it is stored on disk). The company has added an embedded security chip option for select HP Integrity servers that offers protection for cryptographic keys.
HP-UX also allows customers to isolate data in compartments and configure and deploy more secure systems. This functionality includes granular privileges and roles-based access control.
The HP-UX Bastille, an open source security hardening tool, now includes assessment and drift reporting features. The HP-UX AAA server now allows auditing and compliance, as well as authentication, authorization and accounting services using RADIUS and the Extensible Authentication (EAP) protocols.
HP has added data encryption to its HP-UX operating system amid growing customer concern about recent network security breaches.
HP-UX is doing well at least by the estimates of IDC, which say that HP-UX 11i revenue grew 63.5% year over year in 2006.
The new features, which were available Dec. 18 of last year are provided free of charge to HP-UX customers.
