Google has acquired Measure Map, a company that provides usage and traffic analysis for blogs, for an undisclosed amount.

Google bought Measure Map from its creator, Adaptive Path, a consulting, research and training company, Google said Tuesday in its official blog.

Adaptive Path founder and Measure Map product director Jeffrey Veen will jump over to Google, along with other members of the service’s development team, according to a note posted on Adaptive Path’s Web site.

With Measure Map, publishers can track visits to their blogs and monitor user activity. The service is free but by invitation only.

Google has another Web analytics service, called Google Analytics, which is designed to track all types of sites, not only blogs. Google Analytics, a hosted service that formerly cost $199 per month, suffered embarrassing performance and availability problems in mid-November, after the company made it a free service.

As a result, Google suspended new sign-ups while it beefed up the service’s platform. Since then, it has directed those wishing to sign up to request a subscription and sit tight. Only in recent weeks has Google begun to process those requests and issue new accounts.

Google didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about the Measure Map acquisition.
