With only a few weeks remaining in the year, it’s a good time to start planning your career goals for 2006, job site CareerWomen.com recommends.

Regardless of your gender, CareerWomen.com President JillXan Donnelly advises, “Many companies do a lot of hiring and promoting in the first quarter of the year. If you take the time now to ready yourself for new opportunities, you can breeze through the holidays and be confident in your ability to meet new career prospects.”

Here are her suggestions:

* Reflect on this year’s accomplishments. Make a list of all your accomplishments and be sure to write down why you were successful. Be proactive and set aside time with your boss to discuss your goals for 2006.

* Update your resume to include your current accomplishments.

* Determine goals for 2006 and make some of them a reach.

* Take stock in your worth by evaluating your salary and other benefits. You can use tools such as Network World’s salary calculator calculator (registration required), The PayScale Report or salary.com.

* Get new skills while things are slow. Attend online seminars or Webinars, read a few business books or take night classes.
