* Fujitsu Computer Systems ships Itanium 2-based server
Fujitsu Computer Systems last week announced it is now shipping a powerful four-processor Itanium 2-based server.
Designed for data warehousing, business intelligence and large databases, the Primergy RXI600 runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server, and Windows Server 2003 Enterprise and Datacenter Editions.
The rack-mounted server is 4U high and operates at 1.6 GHz. It has up to 3M bytes of Level 3 cache memory and as much as 32G bytes of memory. The RXI600 can be configured with three hard disks with a maximum capacity of 438G bytes. In addition it has eight hot-plug PCI-X slots.
Users can install 64-bit versions of Microsoft’s SQL Server and run 32-bit applications on the same server.
The server has redundant hot-plug power supply units and system fans and an integrated RAID controller for attachment to external storage.
IT managers would monitor and manage the operation of the server with Fujitsu’s ServerView remote in-band software. A Management Controller adapter, which fits in the server, provides hardware-based monitoring, testing, diagnosis and alarming.
Primergy is the name for the servers Fujitsu manufactures with Intel processors. In addition to the RXI600, Fujitsu has Intel-based blade servers, rack-mounted and tower servers. They also make a broad range of Primepower Unix-based servers.
