Aggregation sites have proliferated to the point where they need their own aggregation site (and as I type those words there’s a bell ringing in my head telling me that someone’s already done it).
No matter, last week I stumbled across one that I kind of like — Anecdota — and not just because they were kind enough to post my rant about a health insurance company’s IVR system: “IVR hell: ‘Oh, great, now you tell me.’ “
Anecdota’s niche is that it focuses on first-person accounts of … of, well, just about anything, with major categories broken down into “Computers,” “Work,” “Disasters,” and, oddly enough, “Animals.” There’s a heavy emphasis on the geek stuff.
“I generally look for true, interesting and unique stories as told from a first-person perspective,” says Anecdota’s main man Dusty Pigeon in reply to my e-mail. “After that, anything goes. A particularly varied front page could potentially show anecdotes about meeting Britney Spears, optimizing a Linux graphics driver, repairing a space shuttle in zero gravity, being the president of the USA and finding a fancy dress costume for one’s daughter.”
