Cadence brings Nvidia’s DGX SuperPOD with DGX GB200 systems to enterprise digital twin package

Cadence has updated to its Cadence Reality Digital Twin Platform library with the addition of digital twins for Nvidia’s DGX SuperPOD with DGX GB200 systems.

Cadence Reality Digital Twin Platform is a design tool that lets data center administrators design and lay out a digital twin of their data center showing compute, networking, storage, electricity and backup, and cooling systems, before building it.  Once the completed data center is built, operation can be simulated under a variety of laws and circumstances.

The Cadence Reality Digital Twin Platform enables the creation of high-fidelity data center digital twins by letting designers drag and drop vendor-provided digital models, which function just like their physical counterparts, into their data center digital twin.

Engineers can design entire data centers and campuses to specified power, space, cooling and performance requirements with high accuracy. The package can simulate failure and upgrade scenarios with a few simple clicks.

“The more you’re leveraging these digital twins, the faster your design is, the lower the risk is, and the better your operational efficiency is. And that’s true whether you’re building a gigawatt AI factory or building a traditional data center,” said Rob Knoth, senior group director for strategy and new ventures at Cadence.

The platform has more than 14,000 components from 750 vendors that act as building blocks for building the digital twin. With the addition of Nvidia’s high-end platforms, data center designers can now rapidly prototype and simulate the operation of an AI factory, Cadence stated.

Even though its software covers 750 vendors, Cadence is promoting the Nvidia angle considerably, and understandably since Nvidia has so much momentum. Several months ago, it released blueprints for optimal data center designs, and now it has visualization software to use the designs.

Knoth stress support for the DGX SuperPod, a massive piece of equipment with 10 or more racks of processing power and all the interconnection that goes inside of it. “This is a huge leg up for anyone who’s looking to either retrofit an existing data center with new processing power or building out a new one from scratch,” he said.

As data centers move from megawatts to gigawatts, complexity increases at a considerable rate. The shift to liquid cooling adds even more of the complexity of calculating power usage, said Knoth.

“Because all these things, when you start going into from the megawatt to the gigawatt scale, there are tremendous challenges, and that addition of liquid cooling has huge ramifications on the facility design. This is exactly where a physics-based digital twin come into play,” he said.

“The old strategies of building a large shell and then putting compute inside it is not going to cut it, and so you need some new technology to actually make these things work,” he added.

The Nvidia systems in the Cadence Reality Digital Twin Platform are available now upon request and will be included in the next software release later this year.
