Who Owns the Cloud?

Time to figure it out

There is plenty of marketing speak about the cloud, but when you hang around the offices of the CIO and IT operations, you will find plenty of finger pointing. Who owns what? How the concept of a cloud construct will be embraced? The conversations we have with technology leaders share these common steps:

  1. Develop a special purpose PMO as a strategic driver for the cloud
  2. Build a cloud team from IT operations, application teams, and engineering–make someone responsible as the leader of the team.
  3. Determine who owns the budget for the cloud.

It’s also always important to keep in mind that “The Cloud” is not a destination.
