Nearly three-quarters (73%) of organizations report using some form of WAN optimization today. That would imply that organizations are well-prepared for real-time applications, such as those associated with UC. Not so fast–many firms aren’t using optimization everywhere, or aren’t effectively optimizing to enable real-time applications. And optimization needs are moving past basic caching and acceleration: only now getting up to snuff: “We want real time data and much greater granularity, [including]- event correlation, plus a ubiquitous, host-based and PC-based toolset to get full coverage of all users including those traveling, coming in on VPN, etc.” says a network architect at a professional services firm.
The bottom line: even if you’ve already rolled out optimization, keep a line item in your budget for enhancements. You’ll be glad you did.
