Monitoring application delivery

In delivering enterprise services including UC to end users, IT needs to measure performance at the desktop in order to know what is happening there and to take steps to fix it. When Nemertes asked folks whether and how they measured end-point performance, we got a few basic answers ranging from “We don’t” to “We measure it directly, using tools and tests, and on a regular basis.” What is most interesting is that among those who have the most information about desktop performance, the success of application delivery is rated lowest, 3.3 out of 5 for those who directly, regularly measure performance. Compare that to the 4.2 out of 5 for folks who only occasionally look at performance directly, or who rely on help desk surveys for performance feedback. Our conclusion: a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and that real data lead to less rosy perceptions of performance.
