Macworld Expo 2009: Soonr links iPhone to your Mac and PC files

A new cloud service links your Apple iPhone with files and documents residing on desktop Macs and Windows PCs. The idea behind the service, from startup Soonr, is that your desktop becomes a kind of online cloud computing service accessed from your mobile device. You need software for your iPhone, from the App Store, and software for the computers you’ll be accessing. The service automatically backs up your file whenever these computers are online. And it automatically maintains the latest versions of all your selected documents and pictures in this “personal cloud.” On your iPhone, you can view almost any type of file in full fidelity without additional software programs, collaborate on these documents, share them with other users via their mobile phone number, and even print them out on a remote printer. You select your files, then view and browse them from your iPhone. This first image (click for larger version), shows the list of those files, the selection of Powerpoint file along with the associated actions, and finally a slide from that file displayed on the iPhone. Soonr gives you a lot of flexibility in working with the cloud-based files. Here, you can see thumbnails of some or all of the slides. Tap the one you want and it displays on the iPhone. You can share documents and files easily, just by using a mobile phone number. Here you can see the number of the person with whom the file will be shared, along with a time limit, and optional password protection.
