As border guards become more brazen about searches, new strategies arise

Security guru Bruce Schneier has a fascinating essay this week about his scheme for ensuring that customers officials — either here in the U.S. or abroad — are unable to have their way with the contents of your laptop.

Based on whole-disk encryption and requiring a trusted human partner, it’s complicated and probably not for the typical business traveler, but fun to ponder nonetheless.

Schneier writes:

It sounds crazy, but stay with me. Caveat: Don’t try this at home if you’re not very familiar with whatever encryption product you’re using. Failure results in a bricked computer. Don’t blame me.
