Looking for a new user that will show the impact of this gift
NetApp is giving $1 million of NetApp storage hardware, software and services to a user that is adopting server virtualization. Called the NetApp $1 Million Virtualization Challenge, NetApp is going to judge applicants who register for the challenge by Sept. 21, 2009. Users (except those in Rhode Island and Puerto Rico) can apply here.
Users applying for the $1 Million Virtualization Challenge must be new NetApp customers. NetApp in sponsoring the contest will guarantee that the winner will use 50% less storage in their VMware-enabled virtual environments compared with traditional storage implementations. The winner of the challenge will be determined by a NetApp committee and Storage Strategies NOW.
Ideally, NetApp is looking for an EMC customer with a large enough IT infrastructure that $1 million in hardware, software and service will have an impact.
The winning user will have access to 50T to 75TB of NetApp FAS storage, the DataONTAP operating system, licenses to deduplication, FlexClone and SnapManager for Virtual Infrastructure, as well as professional services for assessment and rapid deployment. They will also receive three years of support. This gear is valued at $850,000 for storage hardware, $100,000 for professional services and $50,000 for software. In the application, the user needs to specify their installed storage capacity, the business applications they intend to virtualize, their current storage vendor, reasons for virtualizing and the hypervisor they are using. The length of the application essay should be no fewer than 500 words. The winner will be chosen based on the ability of the $1 million prize to solve problems that are common to other companies, the business metrics goals to be achieved and the creativity of the essay.
