Salesforce.com Inc. has won a contract to provide CRM (customer relationship management) applications to Japan Post, the world’s largest financial institution by assets, Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff announced Thursday in Tokyo.
The software deal is part of ongoing efforts by Japan Post to beef up its competitiveness as it moves toward privatization, which is slated for October of this year. The CRM software will be used by over 5,000 financial sales agents in Japan, Salesforce.com said in a news release.
The deal is also significant because of the size of the contract and the fact that it went to a foreign company, San Francisco-based Salesforce.com. Japan Post, which delivers mail and packages, also runs the largest postal savings system in the world, with thousands of branches throughout Japan and estimated assets of over US$2 trillion.
