Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has named Chua Sock Koong the successor to outgoing group CEO Lee Hsien Yang.
Chua, who currently serves as SingTel’s CEO of international operations and group CFO, is a 17-year veteran of the company. Her appointment as group CEO will take effect on April 1, 2007, SingTel says.
Lee, who announced plans to step down in July, has served as group CEO of SingTel since 1995, overseeing the company’s transition from a recently privatized operator into a regional telecommunications player. He led SingTel’s push into markets beyond Singapore, including the acquisition of Australian operator Optus.
SingTel reported net profit of S$840 million (US$526 million, as of the last day of the period being reported) on revenue of S$3.2 billion for the quarter ended June 30.
