* Linux Networx releases storage systems for its Linux clusters
Linux Networx last week announced several storage offerings for its high-performance Linux clusters.
Among them are the DataDirect Network’s S2A storage systems, the Linux Networx ST6998 Storage System and the ST2822 – offerings that Linux Networx characterizes as ultimate, premium and value.
The company says that ultimate performance environments are characterized by a combination of large computational node counts, processing of terabytes of data for each iterative analysis and high-bandwidth, low-latency interconnects and very large memory requirements. Premium performance environments frequently have multiple applications with varying performance profiles competing for compute and I/O resources. Value performance environments represent departmental or development systems, used to justify future investments for more granular analysis.
For ultimate performance networks, Linux Networx is offering storage arrays from DataDirect Networks. The S2A storage controllers support the high-bandwidth requirements of supercomputer environments and rich media networks.
The ST6998 has as many as 224 Fibre Channel drives and the ST2822 supports 112 Serial ATA drives. The S2A arrays, which are OEMed from Agami, scale from 1.3Tbytes to over 556Tbytes.
Each of these storage systems integrate with Linux Networx LS-1 and LS/X Linux supercomputer clusters. They are also combined with the General Parallel File System that Linux Networx OEMs from IBM, and Cluster File Systems’ Lustre file system.
