* Packeteer releases latest versions of PolicyCenter and ReportCenter
Packeteer this week is set to make available new versions of its software applications, which can now let IT managers monitor and administer up to 2,500 remote, distributed appliances.
The company is perhaps best known for its PacketShaper appliances that target bottlenecks in WAN application performance as application traffic enters the enterprise in the last mile between the campus and the WAN cloud. Last year, the company released Packeteer 7.0 software for its PacketShaper appliances so that the software can be configured to solve problems automatically.
Packeteer, like competitors Expand Networks, FineGround Networks and Peribit Networks, also offers software applications packaged on an appliance to monitor and optimize WAN traffic. This week Packeteer is releasing new versions of PolicyCenter and ReportCenter.
The software applications let IT managers administer multiple appliances, distribute configuration updates in a one-to-many manner, set policies and generate reports based on traffic statistics, such as top talkers, application usage and bandwidth hogs.
Specifically, PolicyCenter Version 7.1.2 can now centrally manage more than 2,000 remote PacketShaper appliances. Packeteer says the software now features auto-deployment capabilities, making it easier for junior staff members to roll out and configure appliances. Once configured, Packeteer says, “Each PacketShaper automatically subscribes to the PolicyCenter directory server and receives its complete configurations and policies.”
As for ReportCenter, it provides a set of reports addressing metrics on performance management, service-level management and infrastructure utilization, to provide context to traffic management decisions. New features in ReportCenter Version 3.1 include XML custom reports. IT managers can set reports for a period of time on top hosts, throughput history and CPU utilization distribution. Also Packeteer added a feature than enables IT managers to use host flow names in addition to or in place of IP addresses in flow queries and reports.
Both software products are available immediately.
