An Australian company plans to give the likes of Packeteer and Peribit a run for their money in the U.S. market. Exinda Networks makes optimization and compression tools that company executives say provide a low-cost alternative to other WAN performance management products.
The company packages its optimization and compression software on an appliance that typically sits between a firewall and an internal switch. For the compression products, customers would need to install an appliance at either end of a WAN link.
“Our purpose is to improve performance over the WAN and make it simple for network managers to use,” says Exinda Executive Director Anthony Bodin. Exinda will depend 100% on resellers and the channel market. The company just last week signed a distribution deal with a Canadian company to get its products into that market.
The company’s Optimizer appliance enhances network performance by monitoring and prioritizing traffic based on parameters such as applications, time of day, users and groups. The QoS approach, Bodin says, “maximizes the performance of Internet services based on the policies demanded by users and applications.”
Exinda Optimizer also features bandwidth management, rate shaping and priority queuing. Network managers can administer the product and access reports either with a secure Web-based interface or a command-line interface.
Exinda Compressor is based on the company’s flow compression technology and is said to provide more WAN capacity without network upgrades. Bodin says Compressor offers a gain of between 100% to 400% over current WAN capacity.
“Compressor is ideal for branch offices, and it can upgrade application performance for WANs, VPNs and other IP connections,” he says.
Both are available now and prices range between $2,000 and $13,000.
