IBM making a Canadian datacenter with a new 150,000 square ft facility in BC

CNN is reporting that IBM has signed a $75M(CDN) agreement with BC hosting firm RackForceNetworks bringing a 150k square ft commercial data center in British Columbia. The BC datacenter will be the flagship modular datacenter of IBM’s recently announced Project Green. The datacenter is aggressively set to turn-up in December of 2008. More proof that modular datacenters are obsoleting historically long datacenter construction projects. The impact on the Pacific Northwest is exciting, but uncertain. Fiber between Seattle and BC is plentiful and cheap. Combine this with plentiful green power sources, an aggressively expanding but competitive market, and this could either help trigger a land-grab from more expensive markets, or further downward pricing pressure. There are currently over a dozen new facilities being built in the state of Washington.
