Certain IT jobs are weathering the economic downturn better than others, according to research released this week by online career site Jobfox.
Jobfox, founded by CEO Rob McGovern who also founded CareerBuilder, Monday reported that the technology sector boasted many professions in the Jobfox Top 20 Most Recession-Proof Professions. Careers in software design/development, neworking/system administration, business administration (software implementation), testing/quality assurance, database administration and technology executive continue to be strong positions despite a “lackluster job market.” Other positions and skills making the list include project management, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.
“During this critical period of economic slowdown, these are the professionals who have been least affected by six consecutive months of job losses in the U.S.,” McGovern said in a Jobfox press release. “Difficult times, unfortunately, are already here for many low-skilled workers. However, Jobfox continues to see aggressive hiring activity for many critical positions.”
Jobfox derived its special report on recession-proof jobs based on its monthly research of professions in greatest demand by recruiters and other employment agencies. Typically the online career site ranks monthly the top 25 professions in demand, and these most recession-proof professions were identified as having the best median monthly rankings over the time between November 2007 through July 7, 2008.
“Competition is strong for the best job openings,” McGovern said. “The key to landing the top positions is combining cutting-edge experience with important soft skills such as people development and project management.”
