I know it has been a week since my last entry. I do plan on continuing with my advice on taking classes but I just got back from a very good weekend in Florida. It wasn’t a conference or a convention or even a class. I went to meet friends and had a great time.
What does that have to do with this blog? Simple. In my last entry, I talked about how you should take the classes and I realized that I didn’t stress the very real danger of burning yourself out in a rush to finish. I have watched students take class after class as if they were sprinting to some finish line that gives them a trophy if they get there first. I have seen students come to class exhausted and have to mainline coffee so they can stay awake (and avoid getting an eraser thrown their way if they snore). I have heard of new students so excited to be starting this track or another turn into jaded and burnt out people that can’t remember why they took classes in the first place.
Don’t let that happen to you. Study and exams are important but so is surf and sand sometimes. The only burned feeling you should allow is on your shoulders from the time you spend on vacation.
