Security Blog….day 1, posting attempt 1.
This is my fist blog. Not just the 1st entry of this blog, but my first experience with blogging in any form. So give me a few mulligans.
Having been a long time reader of Network World, I have developed an appetite for its flavor of IT journalism. Consumption of the general news articles is always fulfilling, however, it is the particular blend of opinions, editorials and commentary that creates its unique taste. The precise recipe for this publication eludes me, but I’ve managed to figure out some of the key writing ingredients. Mixing portions of McNamara, Gibbs and Shaw, stirred with some Dix and Bradner, and then infused with a combination of Johnson and Blass, will produce a very savory read. Additionally, the contributions of the many other writers, editors, bloggers and *casters, provide the herbs and seasoning that make it delectably complete.
I feel very privileged to have been asked to contribute as a NW blogger. Bestowed, or perhaps cursed, with a unique mind and past, I hope to offer some engaging, amusing, and occasionally educational, commentary on current trends in networking technology. Specifically, I will examine trends, issues, and events related to security, which is often a result of its complete absence.
I don’t quite fit the mold of your typical blogger or posses the traditional credentials of an authority on networking and computing. I do not have any technical certifications. Of my many academic degrees, none pertain to computer science or information technology. However, I have used and owned computers before -in fact I’m typing this on a Timex Sinclair I recently acquired through eBay.
While many aspects of my career are bound by non-disclosure agreements, proprietary confidentiality and pinky swears, many are not. My biographic qualifications will be left as the topic for one of my (not to distant) future writings. Although, for now I assure you that the content of this blog will be authored by someone with expertise in many areas of computer security (I know some people).
Unfortunately, I need to end this blog prematurely, since my contact from Black Hat DC is trying to check-in with me right now.
I hope you will find some enjoyment in reading my ramblings or some comedy in watching me crash and burn. Regardless, I hope this blog serves as a complementary spice to the NW dish, as I aspire to be its Tarragon.
