When last we heard from spyware sleuth Ben Edelman he was politely deflecting my inquiry about a law professor’s scurrilous allegation that Edelman and a half-dozen other lawyers were “extortionists” for having brought a class-action lawsuit against Yahoo.
This time Edelman has Vonage in his crosshairs, which might seem like overkill these days considering how many different individuals and organizations are taking pot shots at the VoIP provider. However, Edelman does have Vonage dead to rights on a charge of marketing its services through a slew of online ad purveyors who are notorious users of spyware.
Why would Vonage get within a toll call of spyware and its attendant radioactive PR? … General incompetence should always be the prime suspect in such cases, but one also might speculate that desperate times call for desperate measures.
