Google engineer shares a life lesson: Don’t tell the bank your checks were stolen

Boy, oh, boy, doesn’t this one give me a boatload of confidence about the fact that my mortgage just got sold Wells Fargo.

From Cedric Beust: Veering off topic on Otaku, Cedric’s Weblog, the author — creator of the Java testing framework TestNG — spells out in excruciating detail why dealing with banks is enough to test any human being’s boiling point.

Nutshell version: New batch of checks from Wells Fargo gets swiped out of his home mailbox. He calls to cancel the checks, but is told that only a maximum of six checks can be cancelled by any one customer. But more than six were stolen, you say? So did he. Bank’s answer: Close your old account and open a new one – that’s your only option. Refusing to take nonsense as an answer, he then grabs hold of the customer “service” rep and her supervisor for a grilling that would have done any hardboiled reporter proud.

I won’t give away the ending … but you can probably guess.
