Gates, Allen in ‘tougher’ times

Todd Bishop’s Microsoft Blog in the Seattle P-I makes note of the fact that this week mark’s the 20th anniversary of Microsoft’s IPO. Included is the full text of the paper’s March 14, 1986 story about frenzy that greeted the offering. Here’s my favorite graph:

“Microsoft’s two founders – Bill Gates and Paul Allen – were made instant millionaires by the offering, but they didn’t seem fazed by all the hoopla. Allen went to work as usual at Asymetrix, the company he founded last year in Bellevue. Gates was in Australia on business.”

Maybe they weren’t fazed because they knew millionaires were mere commoners.
