European researchers have launched a project dubbed Aroma to make advances in the area of quality-of-service across wired and wireless IP networks.

“The objective of the AROMA project is to devise and assess a set of specific resource management strategies and algorithms for both the access and core network part that guarantee the end-to-end QoS in the context of an all-IP heterogeneous network,” according to the official Aroma web site.

Aroma is part of the European Commission’s Information Society Technologies research program. It follows up a project called Everest that focused on advanced algorithms to help wireless operators manage radio resources in supporting all sorts of mobile devices and protocols.
