Dell PowerStore adds storage density and promises to reduce total cost of ownership by 15%.
Dell Technology has updated its PowerStore unified file and block storage array with increased capacity; stronger digital resilience; and simpler file management. The company claims that through these enhancements, organizations can increase storage density per rack unit and reduce total cost of ownership by 15%.
Dell stated that its 30TB QLC drive lets customers store up to two petabytes of data within a 2U rack space, doubling the capacity per rack unit. The unit also delivers up to 23% better power efficiency compared to 3200Q appliances equipped with 15TB QLC drives introduced in 2024.
The system got an enhanced OS, PowerStore 4.3, that introduces several methods for replication to protect data, starting with synchronous replication over Fibre Channel to prevent data loss, and asynchronous replication to ensure recovery point objectives (RPO) down to five minutes. Metro sync replication for files with automated failover, supporting zero RPO/RTO for mission-critical workloads.
Enhanced authorization processes add extra protection against unwanted changes. Integrated, always-on cybersecurity works alongside PowerProtect and AI-powered anomaly detection to help quickly identify potential cyber threats and keep data accessible during disruptions.
PowerStore adds support for NFSv4.2, including features like server-side copy, sparse files, and labeled NFS. The Top Talkers feature helps monitor and analyze resource usage by tracking IOPS and bandwidth. Administrators gain improved tools to enforce QoS policies and pinpoint bottlenecks.
These capabilities make handling files in complex settings more straightforward, giving teams greater control over system performance and the ability to adapt quickly to evolving requirements, according to Dell.
The software update is available now for existing customers. Dell stated it has immediately activated all integrated features, partner ecosystem options, and AI capabilities, allowing organizations to better manage their private clouds without needing further hardware investments.
