A key issue for those deploying desktop virtualization is service engineering. More than half of participants deploying desktop virtualization worried that they simply would not get the infrastructure right, or that they had a lot to learn about how to build it correctly. This is a reflection of the relative immaturity and unfamiliarity of the solutions when compared to server virtualization. It also reflects a flipside of the users’ reluctance to let go of their PCs. If the experience IT gives them in return is worse than what they gave up — slower, buggier, less reliable — then IT will have justified users’ reluctance.
