Consumer technologies have an effect
As the next generation comes into the workforce we’re seeing increasing pressure on IT to deliver familiar technology—consumer technology. Nemertes finds 46.3% of IT staffs actively taking employee technology preferences into account. This influence even extends to gaming. For example, the New York City government and the Air Force have found aspects of consumer gaming to wrap into their own plans. The Air Force is using Sony PlayStations as the basis of unique super-computing efforts in image processing and brain-like system development. New York City is testing use of the Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo online gaming networks as an alternate channel for sending civil-defense warnings to younger citizens. Our advice to IT professionals is to make sure you assess consumer technologies for potential business requirements.
