How companies are attracting and retaining high-value employees
Despite the recession’s affect on the IT industry’s job market, 60% of organizations continue to experience a shortage of IT talent for some tech specialties. Organizations are looking for ways to attract and retain high-value employees within IT and throughout the organization. They are doing this in a variety of ways, paying a premium for some positions, increasing teleworking support, and supporting employee preferred technologies. Difficulties in recruiting top talent stem from several factors: decreased enrollment in technology majors; retirement of a large population of IT workers; and a general misperception of most IT functions being subject to eventual outsourcing. Of organization reporting a shortage of IT talent, the top four areas of concern are: application development (45%), VOIP and converged voice/data (35%), networking and storage (30%), and security (20%). Additionally, 22.5% reported difficulty in multiple areas.
