IT Ops -vs- Application Owner

Opinion

How can they both win?

The reality is that IT operations and application owners are at odds. Application owners would like IT to over-provision resources, run on the highest performing tier of infrastructure, and grant immediate access to resources. IT operations, on the other hand, is constrained by existing investments, limited resources, and management of the entire operation. The IT operations team recognizes virtualization’s ability to help maximize hardware resources, but the application owners may view the same offering as another layer of complexity and risk. The core strength needed from the technology community will be in providing the glue between IT operations and application owners through data protection, data management, and security solutions that meet the goals of both organizations.
