* EMC introduces new Celerra storage arrays
EMC this week bolstered is network-attached storage portfolio with the addition of several new EMC Celerra storage arrays.
The company introduced the Celerra NS120, NS480 and NS960, which have twice the capacity of the present NS20, NS40 and NS80. EMC also introduced the use of lower power Serial ATA drives in the new Celerras and the addition of enterprise flash drives, which will create a Tier 0 of storage for applications needing high performance.
In addition, the new Celerras feature an easy to turn on compliance mode that will be available the first of March, and a Celerra Provisioning Wizard that will assist in provisioning the new systems.
The new Celerras will eventually replace the NS20, NS40 and NS80. The NS120 supports both single and dual blades; the NS480 supports two to four blades. Both support Fibre Channel and Serial ATA drives, though configured in two separate trays.
Included at no cost with the Celerra platform is automated volume management, snapshot capability, thin provisioning, deduplication with compression and multi-path file system technology, which increases performance.
The data deduplication feature combines technologies acquired from Avamar and Mendocino. It uses Avamar’s deduplication technology and Recoverpoint’s compression.
