* Veritas CommandCentral now agentless
Symantec this week unveiled enhancements to its storage optimization suite of software that lets organizations reduce storage purchases as well as their operational costs.
Veritas CommandCentral now is agentless, a feature that helps customers reduce their costs by allowing faster mapping of storage resources to business applications. The addition of the agentless feature, Veritas Command Central Storage Change Manager allows IT administrators to proactively manage changes to their storage networks that could impact application availability. It gives customers an end-to-end view of their data centers and allows them to increase storage utilization and aid consolidation.
Additionally, Symantec is offering a subscription-based pricing model for Veritas CommandCentral Storage, which lets customers pay as they go for their storage system savings. CommandCentral is compliant with the SMI-S specification and with vendor APIs. It supports heterogeneous physical and virtual server and storage environments and VMware ESX virtual environments. Veritas CommandCentral takes the place of element managers and spreadsheets.
When customers deploy CommandCentral, they can save as much as 10% on their capital budget by improving storage utilization by as much as 40%, according to Symantec’s claims. The agentless architecture also reduces deployment costs by not having to install agent software on each managed device.
Storage Change Manager is policy based and measures the impact of infrastructure changes, allowing IT to minimize downtime.
Veritas CommandCentral 5.1 is available now starting at $20,000.
