Onaro this week announced a software product that establishes a link between applications and storage resources.

Called SANscreen Application Insight, the software monitors storage utilization data and pairs that with an application’s need for storage capacity.

Using Application Insight, IT can analyze storage allocation, load balance applications and prevent application outages, resulting in reduced cost for storage, increased storage utilization and higher application service levels.

Aligning storage resources to applications is increasingly important as users tend to over-provision storage.

With Application Insight, customers can chart performance over-time to determine where bottlenecks exist, analyze what triggers them, and understand their associations with applications. Customers can then set policies, balance their storage-area networks for performance and redundancy and use them optimally.

By aligning storage resources with application requirements, these customers have improved storage resource utilization and decrease the risks for application outages.

Application Insight understands an application’s path to storage, combined with device performance information. It can be used to load balance applications across storage resources. It collects port performance information across all Fibre Channel ports. When IT administrators aggregate this information, they can make decisions on how to increase their storage utilization.

Application Insight also collects port throughput; errors and traffic balance ratios between paths so storage; server and application administrators can validate multi-path operations; perform congestion analysis; balance host traffic; and troubleshoot errors.

SANscreen Application Insist starts at $70 per Fibre Channel port.
