* Akorri’s Balancepoint 1.5 management software
Akorri, a start-up in the application service level management space, introduced software this week that ties in virtual environments.
The Balancepoint 1.5 management software, which comes loaded on a rack-mounted appliance, now supports applications running on VMware virtual servers. BalancePoint gives IT administrators visibility into the server and storage resources needed to resolve performance problems and improve service levels.
The company, which first introduced BalancePoint in January of this year, also is now supporting Oracle databases.
Analysts say there is a need for software that can manage performance in virtual environments.
“Akorri’s BalancePoint product can help ensure success of server virtualization projects by providing fine-tuned control mechanisms to optimize the virtualized data center end-to-end,” says Arun Taneja, senior analyst for the Taneja Group.
BalancePoint provides visibility across applications, servers and storage. The software uses analytics to allow IT to resolve performance problems and optimize application operation, as well as make capacity planning decisions.
BalancePoint 1.5 consists of BalancePoint’s Examiner and Analyzer modules. For VMware support, customers would buy BalancePoint Examiner for VMware and BalancePoint Analyzer for VMware. The Examiner module expands on VMware’s VirtualCenter management capabilities and gives end-to-end performance information for ESX Server and virtual machine guests. The BalancePoint Analyzer for VMware module identifies points of resource contention and allows IT to optimize performance. The module analyzes performance and capacity utilization over time.
BalancePoint can discover, collect and analyze information from Windows, HP-UX, AIX, Solaris, Red Hat Linux and VMware servers as well as EMC, IBM, HP, Hitachi, Sun, Engenio and Dot Hill storage arrays.
