How we tested Microsoft’s server SBS 2003 R2 for small business.

Microsoft supplied a set of prereleased disks for SBS 2003 R2 with all features included. We installed SBS 2003 R2 on an older Compaq ML330 server with a Pentium III processor, 512MB of RAM, and a 9GB SCSI hard drive.

For comparison, we also installed a retail software copy of SBS 2003 on an HP Pentium III with 384MB of RAM and a 20GB hard disk.

We configured and tested the server as if it were a first server for a small company, focusing on quickly and securely configuring users with private storage space, access to server applications and the learning curve for a neophyte administrator.
