Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world’s biggest contract chip maker, Thursday reported its best monthly sales ever.
The company’s sales rose to NT$27.57 billion ($841 million) in July, up 32% over the same month last year, it said in a statement. The July figure handily beat the previous sales record for a single month, NT$27.52 billion, set last November.
TSMC’s sales for the first seven months of 2006 rose to NT$186.1 billion, up 38% compared to NT$135.0 billion last year.
The company’s financial performance is watched carefully by analysts and researchers; the chip maker is considered a bellwether for the IT industry because of the variety of chips it produces for computer, communications and consumer electronics products.
