* Voltaire announces GridVision Enterprise grid management software
Voltaire this week announced software for managing and automating grid computing environments.
The software, GridVision Enterprise, allows the automation of repetitive tasks such as network, server and storage provisioning. It uses I/O and network virtualization technology embedded in Voltaire’s multi-protocol InfiniBand, Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel switches.
GridVision maps application requirements with physical or virtual data center servers, storage and network devices. It has a GUI and a Web services-based application program interface, which are used to create, assign and connect grid resources according to business needs.
GridVision accepts user-generated definitions of data center elements, topologies and service levels and provides lifecycle management for server installation, patching and software upgrades. Policies can be set for service-level objectives such as performance or high-availablity, by CPU type and capacity, and by storage type and capacity. Network connections can be allocated based on business need.
It can automatically diagnose, configure, provision, monitor traffic, partition and failover network connections. GridVision is embedded directly into Voltaire Grid Director and edge switches.
Once the software discovers and configures resources within the grid fabric, it can provide views of the data including topology maps, logical grouping, real-time device views, detailed views, statistics and consolidated status/logging information. It can verify the operations of the cluster or grid and report errors with faulty hardware, cabling or misconfiguration.
The software is currently in beta test.
GridVision Enterprise is expected to be available in December 2006 for $249 per server.
