* New from Unisys: ES7000/one server and SafeGuard
endif; ?>Unisys last week announced a new server and a new family of business continuity software for its servers.
The ES7000/one server supports capacity on-demand – customers can buy systems with active and inactive processors. As they find need for processing power, they can turn inactive processors on with a license key Unisys provides.
The ES7000/one runs Microsoft Windows, Red Hat or Novell SuSE Linux. The server consists of as many as 32 32- or 64-bit processors. According to Unisys’s claims, the ES7000/one can intermix Intel Xeon MP and Itanium 2 processors in the same enclosure.
A 16-processor ES7000/one in TPC-C benchmark tests was 50% faster and 48% lower cost per transaction than a comparable IBM system.
Unisys’ new family of business continuity software is called SafeGuard. SafeGuard provides failover over any distance for Unisys’ ES7000 servers. It consists of SafeGuard 30m and SafeGuard Duplex – SafeGuard 30m automates the failover and recovery operation within less than 30 minutes.
SafeGuard Duplex replicates data to a like or unlike server and storage at a backup site. It works with HP-UX, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, Linux or Microsoft operating systems and storage systems from HP, IBM, EMC and Hitachi.
The price for SafeGuard Duplex ranges from $190,000 for 1T byte of replicated data to $590,000 for 30T bytes of data.
