I expected something more from the first worm written specifically for cell phones. Maybe it would divert calls from your mother-in-law to the Psychic Hotline, or change all your ringtones to the Spanish Apple Worm Song (“En esta casa, rojo, rojo, rojo/En esta casa rojo, vivo yo!”). But no, this worm only displays an arcane message and “seriously reduces battery life.” Still, though, you wouldn’t want to get it. Wardriving for WLAN security

Volunteers armed with laptops and WLAN adapters are in the midst of a project to see how many unsecured WLANs they can find, just by driving around. The results so far are not pretty – they’ve identified 200,000 WLANs, and only a third of them have even the most basic security.

Cisco reshuffles content networking business

Cisco is shaking up its content networking organization. The company on Monday disbanded its Content Networking Business Unit and is moving people and technology from that group into its Multiservice Customer Edge Business Unit (MCEBU), according to company sources.

VoIP requires wide range of planning

When network executives evaluate their networks to see if they are ready for VoIP, they must look beyond the factors that jump to mind immediately, say those who have been through the process.

Offshoring: Advantages and disadvantages

Have you lost your job because your company saw the bottom line and moved the position halfway across the world? Or have you benefited from the U.S. offshoring trend? Network World will be publishing a section on the topic of offshoring/outsourcing, so please pass along your name and e-mail address if you are willing to be interviewed for a story. Network World is looking to put more of a human face to the issue. Please send responses to:
