A few new cool sites for your career needs

The Web Innovators Group (WebInno) Boston Monday hosted an event at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge featuring several start-ups designing technologies and tools to take on everything from charitable giving management (Givvy) to digitizing paper trails (Pixily).

Two companies, in particular, stood out to me as I often search for career resources for IT professionals. WebInno itself has several Web and technology-related positions posted on its free job board, according to organization founder David Beisel, a vice president at venture capital firm Venrock.

For its part, PeopleAhead is an online career resource that uses technology the company refers to as “TrueMatch” that is able to present relevant career opportunities to experienced professionals and provide qualified candidates to recruiters. Candidates can use their LinkedIn information to take the “PeopleAhead TrueMatch test drive” and get career matches in as little as 10 seconds, according to the company, which was founded in June 2006 by Tom Chevalier and Carlos Larracilla. Recruiters and hiring companies can tap into the growing network at PeopleAhead.com to fill open positions.

Another start-up venture decided to provide a different resource for job seekers and those employed professionals who wish to share their experiences — good or bad — in an anonymous setting. JobVent.com promises to provide an online place that people can read and write reviews about their employers and jobs. Craig Spitzkoff, who founded the company in August 2004, says the site offers people a community in which to share their unbiased views of their organizations. For job seekers, the reviews could help them decide on where to work; and for employers, the anonymous comments could help them improve conditions for their current employees.

WebInno’s next scheduled meeting is set for December 9, 2008. View an archive of previous events here.
