Google is so ginormous these days it’s hard for it to do anything under the radar.
Which is why when the company applied to ICANN to sell domain names, it got The Register’s attention. The Reg reports that ICANN “quietly approved” Google’s application, and the search engine giant can now sell “any .biz, .com, .info, .name, .net, .org and .pro domains”.
Curiously, though, Google says it has no intention to do so, at least not yet.
A Google spokesperson told The Register that the company “wants to get a better understanding of the domain name system [and so] increase the quality of our search results”.
*cough*giveusabreak*cough* So what’s really going on? The Register has some theories.
