Our favorite tabloid, The New York Post, reports that sales of portable cell phone jammers are on the rise in Manhattan, allowing anyone to stifle annoying chatter in their vicinity.
“I use it on the bus all the time,” one user told The Post. “I always zap the idiots who discuss what they want from the Chinese restaurant so that everyone can hear them. Why is that necessary? I can’t throw the phones out the window, so this is the next best thing.”
The devices range in price from $250 to $2,000 and are illegal per FCC laws because they can interfere with emergency and public service communications. But that’s not stopping silence-seekers from buying them online or in any of NYC’s finer spy shops, the paper says.
