Last week, the county’s top HIV statistician sent out his monthly report to 800 department colleagues, but also accidentally included a file listing the names of every HIV/AIDS patient in the county. He quickly realized his error and amazingly county officials believe only 10 messages were opened, and none were printed, stored, copied or forwarded.
“It doesn’t look like it got outside at all,” one official said. “We’re like 99% sure right now.” Those who did open the e-mail have been “reminded of their confidentiality agreements,” USA Today reports.
Palm Beach County Health officials say the statistician may be disciplined, but won’t be fired.
