If you think about it, it probably makes sense that the head of the American Library Association wouldn’t love bloggers.
But Michael Gorman, president-elect of the ALA, doesn’t just “not love” them, he’s moved straight to disdain, after writing an op-ed piece on Google for the LA Times.
After what we’re guessing was many a “Michael Gorman is a dope” e-mail landing in his inbox, Gorman unleashes both barrels on what he calls “Blog People”.
To wit:
“It is obvious that the Blog People read what they want to read rather than what is in front of them and judge me to be wrong on the basis of what they think rather than what I actually wrote. Given the quality of the writing in the blogs I have seen, I doubt that many of the Blog People are in the habit of sustained reading of complex texts. It is entirely possible that their intellectual needs are met by an accumulation of random facts and paragraphs.”
“Blog People”. Hee! If Gorman’s smart, and he certainly thinks he is, he best get a new e-mail address or a flame-retardant server.
