It will soon be a good news/bad news proposition if you’re an Atlanta subway commuter. The bad news: You’re on the subway. The good news: You get to watch TV.

CNN reports that by late spring, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will install on all 230 subway cars 15-inch flat-screen TVs that will offer TV news and three types of music (top 40, jazz and R&B). Atlanta will become the first North American subway such a service to commuters.

Via technology created by The Rail Network company of New York: “As the train passes through wireless clouds — ranging in radius from 600 feet to a mile – it will detect any new content and download it onto the trains’ TVs.”

Rail Network CEO David Lane says MARTA could make $20 million over the next decade, via a revenue cut from TV and radio advertisers. Yet, the CNN story didn’t note the project cost.
