Some applying to top-flight colleges got the good – or bad – news on their future early after following hacking tips that let them access internal admissions records.
On Wednesday, a hacker posted info on a Business Week forum on how to tap into ApplyYourself, a popular online application and notification program. By Thursday, colleges such as MIT, Stanford, Duke, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, Stanford and Dartmouth found they had applicants rooting around to see whether they had been accepted.
According to The AP, some school officials hinted that if identified, those who tried to find out their information illegally wouldn’t be attending their institution come fall.
